MORRISTOWN, N.J - January 14, 2005 --
Tyco Telecommunications, a leading provider of international wholesale capacity, colocation and managed services, and XchangePoint, Europe’s first multi-country neutral peering point, announced today they have formed a strategic business relationship to deliver a fully-integrated multi-venue Ethernet/Peering solution for European customers. Tyco Telecommunications will provide Ethernet Services on the Tyco Global Network (TGN) and XchangePoint will provide Internet Peering Services in London, Frankfurt and Amsterdam.
The service offering provides customers with secure and efficient transport of high capacity traffic, and enables long distance IP connectivity and improved peering. Additionally, it reduces the costs of IP transit and provides customers 24/7/365 monitoring and carrier class network reliability. These customer benefits are possible because of the combination of the global reach, network resiliency, and seamless interconnection of TGN, one of the most advanced global networks in operation today, and XchangePoint’s European facilities which provide regional transport and peering services to 16 metropolitan venues in Europe including carrier neutral data centers in London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Hamburg.
Richard Almeida, chief executive officer of XchangePoint, said, “This strategic relationship with Tyco Telecommunications sets a high standard for inter city connectivity with international carriers. Customers often ask for the high quality of service and we are very happy to work with Tyco Telecommunications to provide this service, without compromising our neutrality.”
European customers are already taking advantage of this service offering. Probe Networks, Carrier 1 and Active 24, have all contracted for access to XchangePoint’s peering community in London from various data centres in Amsterdam using bandwidth on TGN’s pan-European network. The TGN pan-European network connects London, Amsterdam, Groningen, Frankfurt, Paris, Madrid and Lisbon with TGN’s global footprint providing direct access to key telecom and business hubs in the United States and Asia. Victor Haddad, director of product management at Tyco Telecommunications, states, “Ethernet and IP customers no longer require simple connectivity. They demand reliable Ethernet services on a global scale as well as a portfolio of colocation and interconnect services. The strategic relationship we have developed with XchangePoint supports Tyco Telecommunications’ strategy of delivering total solutions to ISP and enterprise customers.”
