MORRISTOWN, NJ - April 7, 2005 --
Tyco Telecommunications, a leading provider of international wholesale capacity and colocation services on the Tyco Global Network (TGN), has joined the Partnership Programme of the London Internet Exchange (LINX), Europe’s largest Internet exchange, and will provide LINX members in New York City and Miami with direct access to TGN’s connectivity and Global Ethernet Services. The agreement enables affiliated Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to provide enhanced service to their customers through the LINX from Anywhere programme.
With the addition of the Tyco Global Network to the LINX community, LINX customers around the world now have the opportunity to use TGN’s high capacity, fibre optic global network to connect with LINX’s switching facilities in London. Customers will have the opportunity to utilize TGN’s Global Ethernet and Virtual IP Connect (VIP) services in addition to TGN’s wholesale bandwidth services and colocation services.
This relationship is expected to be of particular benefit to smaller overseas ISPs and their customers who desire a point of presence at LINX. ISPs around the world can now have a ‘virtual’ presence on the LINX exchange without investing in the hardware and manpower costs of maintaining their own Internet switch in London.
The LINX Partnership Programme enables Internet industry suppliers that do not qualify as LINX members to share in Internet industry initiatives. It fosters new business relationships and promotes wider participation in LINX debates on technical and regulatory issues.
LINX handles more than 90 per cent of the UK’s Internet traffic, allowing its membership of more than 170 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and similar organisations to rapidly and cost-effectively exchange data between their networks.
Victor Haddad, director of product and channel management at Tyco Telecommunications, said: "TGN is one of the largest data networks in the world and LINX is the largest Internet exchange in the world. This agreement brings us together to provide faster and more cost effective solutions for Internet Service Providers and Internet users worldwide."
LINX sales and marketing manager Vanessa Evans said: “TGN’s membership in the LINX Partnership Programme makes LINX from Anywhere available to even more ISPs around the world. It means the benefits of speed and reliability of data transfer which come with LINX membership will be available to more Internet users across the globe."
